Themes

A theme controls how your site looks and how its pages are laid out. Every site uses one theme. Switching themes changes only the presentation. Your pages, media, and structure stay exactly as they are, so it is safe to try a few.

Choosing and customizing a theme is a Pro feature. Free sites use the default theme.

The themes

  • Modern: a clean, general-purpose theme. A good default for blogs and documentation.
  • Minimal: text-first and sparse, for writing that should stand on its own.
  • Photographer: image-forward layouts for galleries and photo posts.
  • Creator: a personal-site theme for showcasing work and writing together.
  • Coach: a landing-style theme for a service business.
  • CafĂ©: a warm theme for a small business or venue.

Pick based on what you are building: a documentation site wants sidebar navigation, a portfolio wants room for images, a blog wants the words up front.

Customization

The Theme page in the dashboard controls more than the theme choice:

  • Layout: sidebar position, what appears in it and in what order, content width, sticky header.
  • Typography: heading and body fonts, base font size, code syntax highlighting.
  • Page elements: toggles for tags, dates, reading time, table of contents, breadcrumbs, next/previous links, search, and the footer.
  • Extras: comments, a newsletter signup prompt, social sharing, and gallery layout options.

You can also override the theme on an individual page, which is useful when one page should look different from the rest of the site.

Dark mode

Every theme has a light and a dark version. You choose whether the site defaults to light, dark, or the visitor’s system preference, and whether to show a toggle.
